My Old Friend Watercolor
Hi there,
I’m working on a series of watercolor paintings based on stills from my animation short “Migrations.” I wanted something tangible from the whole experience of making the film in Flash. The problem with making my film on the computer is that all of it is in pixels and light. Sure, I can get reproductions of the stills, but I still want the feeling of something that I have physically made.
When I made my thesis film I used watercolor cut-outs and shot it under an Oxberry camera. The whole experience of being in that image-making submarine was difficult and wonderful.
I still have all the parts of that piece and it’s nice to see the visible progress of making something move on film.
So, now I’m tracking backwards to get that whole feeling of making a film. I’ll see how it goes.

That is neat! I can’t wait to watch the process.
Thanks Jill:)
Needless to say - I love this one, Alyssa.
It can be so different working with your hands rather than pixels, can’t it? I create collages mostly by hand and sometimes find the digital ones where I move the components with the aid of photoshop can sometimes have a cooler feel.
take care & happy creating, g
Thanks Grache,
I agree with you. Computer versus handmade are vastly different feeling in process. Even though the end result is drawn from the same mind pool they can look so different. This was the first time that I really liked using Flash and that it felt like a art tool for me. I also think that if I had done my film in watercolor cut-outs the film would not have worked out as well visually.
